I’m a big fan of the Grundig Satellit 750 but the Grundig S350 Deluxe just needs to disappear. There’s nothing “Deluxe” about it. It’s cheaply made, especially the tuning knob. It wobbles like if it was going to fall off when turning. Ok for everyday listening on AM and FM but horrible on shortwave. Audio is fairly decent for AM and FM. This is an analog radio with a digital display. Just a waste of time and money. I really have nothing more to say about this radio. I highly recommend the Grundig Satellit 750 instead. Now that’s a real general coverage receiver!

Not worth what it costs. Controls are difficult at night-volume setting is next to impossible set at lower levels. Would not recommend this radio to anyone.

Plug it in then *** READ THE DIRECTIONS ***

I find the display difficult to see at times without adjusting my angle of view.

I purchased the unit for AM use during power outages.

I like the fact it has the option for 4-D cells for battery power.

I have not been successful with tuning in SW stations.

I have picked up AM stations LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Utah, Washington and Oregon.

We now use the unit to air a small station 70 miles away during the weekends.

I find the AM sound quality acceptable for this use.

The radio was larger than I expected. So be clear about the size of the radio you want before you order it. When the radio arrived, I put in batteries. It did not work. I then used the AC adapter, pluged it in and turned it on. The radio started to smoke and I pulled the plug. The radio never did work and I have returned it.

Grundig has made some functions of the S350DL am/fm/sw radio a real pain: 1. If I wanted the radio to cut off (sleep) I would set it to do that. Seems Grundig’s radio auto-turns off in 90 minutes tops, sure you can down that to 45-mins, or less in increments, but you can NOT disable it, so every 1.5 hours the unit cuts off & U run over to turn it back on!! Thanks for a preset function I really hate. 2. If the battery cover were any more loose you would need to duck tape it closed, with a handy carrying strap, don’t count on the cover being there if you take it back-packing. 3. You need to enjoy back packing up high hills, as even with the fixed 2 unit antenna and 3 SW bands to choose from, the reception is pathetic, oh and the round antenna (Sangean ANT-60 Short Wave Antenna)that Amazon.com suggests you buy with this model will NOT plug into ANY part of this radio, it must be clipped onto the tip of the unit attached swivel antenna to even pick up more gain, fall off if the antenna is even moved by the wind. The sound it tinny and the model is much less than I expected from Grundig. Oh and calling tech support gets you to a company recording from Yukon telling you to leave a message. I wish I had never bought such poor quality junk and spent so much for so little.

I use this at a desk all day at low volumes. It does not have an special reception to it as it is just as good as my Sony clock radio for the talk station I listen to.

I still dont know how to set presets…not as easy as you might think.

It is a nice radio though. It has good sound and it is pretty solid. It has stereo head phone jack and in all fairness the ability to add an antenna which I have not yet done.

The Grundig S350 has great sound quality. It offers many features like bass/treble, narrow and wide band width and gain control, just to name a few.

I find its compact design and superior sound not to mention the great reception is well worth the price. Amazon.com offered great shipping at a great price.

Very good for the average listener
      Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Radios are all about sound and the Grundig 350 has very good warm tones that are easy to listen to all day long. This radio can do very well as a table radio which is how I use it. The sound is solid with no distortion even if driven to full volume. This radio is a keeper for the sound alone.

As far as Am/Sw reception goes the Gundig 350 does very well provided you use external antennas to pull in the signals. The new added frequency lock works well to stop the drifting this radio was so infamous for. The Fm reception is very good pulling in many stations on the built in whip antenna and holding them rock steady.

If you want SSB ,or better Am/Sw signal capture, a full sized proper Communications Receiver is a better choice. That said, for every day casual listening ,on all bands offered on the Grundig, it does a fine job that will entertain one and all. This radio does Am/Sw well enough I can take my time now to find a deal on a decent older Communications Receiver in the used market. For now (maybe longer????) I’ll just enjoy the Grundig.

All the controls on the Grundig work as they are supposed to instead of just being dials/switches to look good. Reading the well written manual will help the new user to gain full benefit of just what this radio can really do. One point about this radio that is little understood is the analog tuning. Analog tuning gives the user a way to really control this radio in ways not possible with electronic tuning while holding down the cost to enable Grundig to put in other features that normally would cost more. More bang for the buck ’cause you do your own tuning. Oh yes, I prefer analog tuning because I can slide right onto a weak signal I couldn’t with electronic tuned radios.

Can I recommend the Grundig 350DL? Yes, as long as the buyer understands this is a first rate “casual” radio and they will not be disappointed at all.

Follow up after external indoor antenna added……..

WOW!! Talk about an improvement!! A simple $2.50 300ohm wire dipole that I bought at the hardware store worked magic on this radio. I just hung the dipole & clipped it to the radio’s antenna and this little radios was able to reach waaaaaaaaaay out there with ease. There is still the imaging problem but that is to be expected. That said, now I can listen to lots of stations that were not there before !!!!

      Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Overall good radio, right out of the box it picked up some pretty far away stations. Night time listening of course is better between 6 and 12 khz. Expect to hear mostly religous and latin america stations. The knobs are easy to use but are somewhat generic feeling, there is some play in all of them. The antenna broke on me today so be careful if you plan on moving the radio alot. It would help if it had memory keys due to the many sw stations there are to choose from. The audio quality is great on the stronger stations, am reception is not as great as i expected. Its definatly not a professional grade redio, but good for the price and good for beginners.

Using it for some local FM stations it did not appear to hold the frequency and drifts slightly thus requiring some periodic fine tuning adjustments. Also, the rear battery door is flimsy. I ended up placing some duct tape over it to hold it in place. This I should not have to do!!!

With the frequency of hurricanes and power outages in my area, I have a collection of portable radios. I prefer those with 4 “D” cells as they are big and chunky enough to last more than a year or two. This Grundig has the best sound, excellent battery life, and good looks. It has been my main portable since I bought it 4 years ago.

      Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is not really a review. I will probably update this after I have had a chance to really get to know this radio. I recently purchased a GS350DL from RadioShack and so far I am quite happy with it, but I was on the verge of returning it because the Sleep Timer does not work according to the instructions on page 15 of the manual. It says repeated pressing of the Power&Sleep button will finally set the Sleep Timer to off which is how I would like use the radio. Unfortunately this does not happen and the sleep interval simply cycles around to 90 again. Luckily I noticed the instructions on Page 11 regarding turning the radio on and off, and that saved the sale. All you have to do is hold the button for a second and the radio will turn on without the Sleep Timer being activated. I just thought I’d mention this for people like myself who are sure they know all about turning a radio on and off.

Great Radio For Shortwave Radio Listeners With Bells and Whistles
      Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This radio is great to have any where in the house. A radio that can be used for emergencies with the 4 AA or 4 D Cell battery combination. Also

the AM reception is perfect just like other shortwave radios like it should be. The best thing about this radio is that it has RCA output

stereo jacks on the side to connect to your favorite tape deck, stereo

or anything with a amplifier like those separate tuners for selling for

twice as much. This radio is recommended for beginning radio listeners

who want to get to know the shortwave bands and learn about physics and

science in propagation studies. Also its a great radio for the Amateur Radio operators who need to monitor their transmitter using a extra

coupling BFO single side band demodulator. You have a choice with this radio to connect a real good shortwave antenna. The Cons are that this radio does not have the long wave bands so if you want to take it to Europe, North Africa Region, and the Asia Pacific Regions you will not hear any long wave stations.

Great Little Radio — Grundig S350DL
      Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Just set this up to use today. Very impressed so far. Pulling in distant AM and FM stations very nicely. It is a fun radio to operate and looks very nice. Currently have the line out to my stereo set up and that is impressive for music, not so hot for talk and sports, the radio speaker is better for that. The 90 min auto sleep function can be overiden on the DL if you wish. I live in the mountains of central upstate NY, surrounded by higher terrain in all directions especially to the North and West. Tonight I listened to Friday night oldies on 740AM from Canada. Hockey games in Philly and Chicago on AM. During the day and a little tonight, Binghamton NY oldies radio on 100.5FM. Also pulled in tons of short wave broadcasts tonight. I am not familiar with SW so I will have to learn the ropes with that. The wide setting is usefull to me and provided great listening on AM during the day for a couple of local am stations one 20 miles to the east and one 20 miles to the west. Not many good am stations available to me in my location during the day so the wide setting worked well during the day and the narrow was best at night when everything came to life on AM. Head phones gave very nice stereo on FM. The Duel tuning ratio knobs worked very well. No wobble in mine, but the display model on the floor was terible, it felt like the knobs were about to fall off. Everything work perfectly on the one I bought, nicely lighted freq indicator (digital) with analog tuning NICE. Clock, alarm, timer, swithes. For the price ($100) it does what it is suppose to do very well. The wip antenna for FM is a big one and very sturdy. The radio must have a very large ferrite bar internal antenna for AM given the fine AM it produces. The AFC operated OK. Although it works very well now without any external antenna help, I am going to try a C.Crane twin ferrite antenna with it which should really make it shine on AM. Be carefull with the battery cover it is thin plastic and it does not look like it would take much to break it when removing it to install the 4 D cells. Currently running mine with the AC/DC 6 volt adaptor. Overall – Glad I bought it. 5 Stars

UPDATE 4/23/09 after 2 months – Still think this is a nice little radio, I use it everyday for hours at a time. I have added the Crain Twin Coil antenna connected inductively and it makes a great combination. Fun radio for everyday use. I could not have asked for more for the money. Still 5 Stars !

Just what I was looking for
      Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I originally ordered a Sony ICF-SW7600GR World Band Radio thinking I would sit here at night listening to radio stations from around the globe. Well it turns out I don’t enjoy that as much as I thought I would. Plus, I just was not that happy with the sound quality of the Sony as an everyday AM radio, plus the antenna on the Sony was just horrible – When in the straight up and down position it would wobble back and forth between the 11:00 and 1:00 position and drive me nuts (unacceptable to me on a $140 radio). So I did a little research and came across this radio and it’s ideal for me.

This is my everyday AM radio that sits on top the ‘fridge and the sound quality on AM and FM is wonderful. Its ability to pull in distant AM stations is great and it works really well on shortwave.

The old fashion tuning takes a little bit to get use to and it can be a bit of trick sometimes to get it right on the exact frequency, but the look and feel and sound of this radio outweigh any of the negatives. It reminds me of an old Radio Shack radio from the 70′s I used to play around with as kid.

It is really fun to sit there and turn the dial and see what I can find from across the country. I strung up 75′ of wire from one end of my attic to the other and with that attached to the connection on the back (another plus as I don’t need to clip it to the antenna) I easily and clearly pull in stations from Cuba, Mexico, Canada and even a few from Europe. Plenty interesting to satisfy my shortwave appetite.

I don’t have any problem with the tuning dial being cheap and flimsy as others have mentioned. Sure it could be a little more solid, but I don’t foresee any issues down the road. This radio will last me a long time. Oh ya – and the antenna on this radio is strong, stable and quite long.

So if you’re looking for a nice, fun to use, good sounding, all around table top radio – give this one a try.

The Grundig S350DL is an amazing radio. It can pick distant stations out of interference or adjacent broadcasts. Using its narrow or wide and RF gain controls. You can run for long periods between battery changes with its D cell power. This radio is highly recomended, if you’re a radio fan pick one up!

I live in an apartment building that has metal cross-beams – and they interfere with the radio signal. I have borrowed radio receivers from friends, but could only hear two AM radio stations, and nothing in the FM… all was just static.

Then I bought this wonderful Grundig, and the reception – AM MW and FM – is crystal clear. The thing is also pleasant to look at, and it is solidly built. I don’t do SW, however, so I can’t comment on that.

      Highly recommend!

A SW blast from the past
      Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I started out listening to shortwave radio with a Zenith Trans-Oceanic purchased in 1967. I still have it, but it is no longer in very good working condition. I also use a newer, much smaller portable SW receiver with digital tuning that works well. I couldn’t resist this Grundig (black version) because of the styling–it looks like something out of the 50′s, except for its digital readout. I really hate radios with nothing but buttons. Give me knobs and switches any day. So this Grundig is right up my alley. It has a very nice tone for a portable, although at its size it really doubles as a table radio. Since it is an analog tuning receiver, the frequency will drift a little. Well, my Trans-Oceanic drifted too, so I don’t care–that’s part of the radio’s charm. And the drift is not a lot–a few kHz or 10 MHz (on FM) here or there after it has been set for an hour or so. Now, this is the DL model (deluxe) that is supposed to have a new frequency lock, but it still drifts, as I say, just a bit. If you can’t stand anything other than a rock-solid digital frequency lock, this is not the radio for you. I found the tuning dials (fast and slow) smooth enough and a pleasure to use. Of course, there are no memory sets (no buttons, remember), which some may find annoying. Again, my beloved Trans-Oceanic didn’t have any either, and I enjoy searching and tuning for stations. Every time you adjust the tuning dials, the backlight (blue) comes on for about 15 seconds, which is a nice feature. On the old classic Zenith you had to manually switch on the light whenever you wanted to see the analog dial. This Grundig runs either on four D batteries, four AA batteries or on the supplied AC adapter. If I could change things, I would put all the shortwave bands on separate switch positions instead of bunching them into 3 SW selections. And I would make it remember the frequency I was on last, when changing between bands. But those are minor inconveniences, overall. If you like what used to be and think that perhaps the newest designs aren’t always the best, this radio may appeal to you.

Much has been improved in the DL verison. The sleep timer can be turned off. Signal lock reduces drifting. After about 30 min. inside I get almost no drift at all. AM is powerful. I live in Peoria,IL and I get stations from New York, California, Florida, and Minnisota and they sound like they’re comming from Peoria. The tunning dial on mine is not sloppy like other reviewers have mentioned. Short wave reception is very good and with an external long wire it is excellent. The drawbacks are No SSB, and the wall wart adapter adds quite a bit of noise on the SW bands. I have been very happy with this radio. It reminds me of the old Panasonic Rf-2200

Great Basic Table Radio Is Tops for AM/FM Reception
      Rating:5 out of 5 stars
If you’re looking for a basic table radio without presets and digital tuning, you would do well to consider the Grundig S350 Deluxe, which I have owned and used for the last 3 years. The S350 will get you best FM performance possible. AM is great also. The speaker is loud and fills a room easily.

The antenna is very long. Make sure you have room to extend the antenna so it doesn’t bend by jamming against a wall or a ceiling.

The tendency to drift in the old model of the S350 has been fixed with the new Deluxe model.

You will also like the fact that though the radio is analog, you can see the digital read-out, so you always know what station you’re on.

Another outstanding feature is fine-tuning and RF grain so you can filter as much as you need in the event you get AM overloading.

My only complaint about the S350 is really a complaint about all modern radios: They are built of light plastic. Gone are the days of heavy, high-grade radios. But on balance if you are a stickler for AM and FM reception, you will find that you have a reception champion in the S350.

Fair or excellent depending on usage.
      Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is one of my keeper radios for a couple of reasons. #1, it’s the most sensitive radio I’ve owned on MW. If you like to do some AM DX’ing, this radio is excellent. It’s just as good as the “GE Super-Radio”. I’m in the NY area, and can pick up AM stations all over the US and Canada. #2, the audio quality is excellent. Battery life is also excellent. As shortwave radio, it has its shortcomings. By design, the radio has an analog tuner with a digital display. This causes the radio to drift, as most analog radios do. Many people think because it has a digital frequency display, that it’s a digital tuner. Not so. If drift is going to annoy you, then look elsewhere.

      Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This radio is better than I expected when I bought it for $100.00. It has long battery life and allows you to choose AA or D size batteries with the ease of a selector switch. The radio has a 90 minute timer which is useful, but if you want it to stay on indefinitely, the power button needs to be held down for 3 seconds. The only downfall is that the radio tuning control does have a tendency to move, which forces the listener to keep adjusting the radio every so often.

I will make this short and sweet. I never owned a shortwave radio and wanted my wife to be able to listen to German radio broadcasts. The radio achieved this right out of the box. I will not be able to rate how this radio stacks up against the competition, but it has done exactly what I purchased it for. All I ask it that Amazon should send the pictured product. The picture indicated the newer S350, but received the older model, but I am still quite satisfied with my purchase. Oh, the local broadcasts in both AM & FM are much easier to pick up and clearer than any other radio in the house. For $99 go ahead and buy it!
